The challenge is to remain authentic: Ellie Bamber on biopics ‘Moss & Freud’ and ‘Anna’

Mumbai: British actor Ellie Bamber, who will be seen in two biographical dramas “Moss & Freud” and “Anna”, says portraying real-life characters on the big screen is a challenging task.

The challenge is to remain authentic: Ellie Bamber on biopics ‘Moss & Freud’ and ‘Anna’

In “Moss and Freud”, the actress plays British supermodel Kate Moss. In “Anna”, she will play Elena, a disciple of Russian journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya.

Bamber, known for her roles in Tom Ford’s 2016 film “Nocturnal Animals,” the BBC series “The Serpent” and the Disney series “Willow,” currently voices and stars in the third season of the Audible podcast “Impact Winter.”

“The biggest challenge is authenticity and being authentic to the person… I’ve been very lucky because Kate is the executive producer of the project, and so having her support during filming was invaluable.

“It’s about understanding the essence of the character and getting to the heart of them as a person and bringing that out,” the 27-year-old actress told PTI in an interview.

Bamber said she resembled both the Moss and Elena characters.

“My character Elena in ‘Anna’ is very focused and driven at work and I think I want to be like that too. With ‘Kate…’, it’s a lot of fun. So, I think I can have some fun too.”

Apart from these biopics, the actor said he is thrilled about his participation in the Ryan Reynolds-starrer “Animal Friends”, an upcoming live-action-animated road action-comedy film.

“I’m so excited. I had so much fun shooting ‘Animal Friends.’ She’s so funny. She’s amazing. Also, Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy are amazing. I’m excited to see that,” he added.

Working on the third season of “Impact Winter” was a wonderful experience for Bamber.

“It’s different to film and TV in a lot of ways, you don’t see our faces but there’s a real beauty to it because you’re honing the voice and it’s a real exercise and it’s really exciting,” she said, adding that the new instalment has several big revelations about her character Lydia.

She said, “The biggest challenge this season was that I had come back from Rome where I had an accident and so it was a challenge for me to keep taking the painkillers and also focus on the Audible series.”

The latest season of the podcast was released last month on Audible.

The first chapter of the hit series, set to release in 2022, will take listeners to the near future, when a comet impact causes the Sun to disappear and the Earth to be gripped by a permanent winter.

Vampires have emerged from the shadows to reign supreme. A survivor, Darcy, leads a campaign to save humanity, and her younger sister Hope longs to live above ground again. Season two arrives in 2023.
