Bengaluru: Experienced actress b. Sarojdevi, who has acted in about 200 films in seven decades, died at the age of 87.
Known for his work in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi films, Sarojdevi’s death has left the industry in shock.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in her post paid tribute to the late actress, “The news of the passage of senior Kannada actress B. Sarojadevi has caused deep grief. She had acted in about 200 films about Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema. Kitoor Chenmma, Babarwahna and Annhathani came in the minds of Annathani.

Siddaramaiah said, “His departure, entertaining the audience for decades through refined films, is a significant disadvantage to Indian cinema. I pray that Sarojdevi’s soul gets peace. My condolences to his unhappy family and fans,” he wrote on X.
Recalling the contribution of Sarojdevi to Indian cinema, Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, R. Ashok also said, “I am very sad to hear the news of Mrs. B. Sarojdevi, an experienced actress in the Kannada film industry, who is known as the ‘Goddess of acting’.
After acting as lead actresses in more than 160 films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema, her departure is an irreparable loss not only for Kannada but also for the entire Indian film industry. Sarojdevi got a big break with her Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidasa (1955). He made his Telugu film debut with Pandurang Mahatharim (1957) and starred in several successful films by the end of the 1970s. Tamil film Nadodi Mannan (1958) established her as one of the top actresses in Tamil cinema.
After her marriage in 1967, she became the second most sought -demanded actress in Tamil films from 1974, while she became the top actress in Telugu and Kannada Cinema from 1958 to 1980. He also acted in Hindi films till 1959, which started by 1959.
She acted in 161 consecutive films as female leadership between 1955 and 1984.
Sarojadevi was awarded the Padma Shri in 1969 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992 by the Government of India. He also received honorary doctorate from Bangalore University and Kalammani Awards of Tamil Nadu. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
