New Delhi: Vir Das, who is gearing up to host the International Emmy Awards a year after winning the trophy for his Netflix special, said the journey from being a winner to now becoming a host has been great.
Das, who is going to be the first Indian to host the awards, said though the news has been announced recently, he has known about it for three months.
In 2023, Das won the International Emmy Award in the Best Comedy category for his Netflix stand-up special “Landing”. He was also nominated in the same category in 2021.
“I was very happy when they asked me and I immediately said ‘yes’. It’s been a great journey from being a nominee to the winner and then becoming the host. What a great achievement in four years. I am very grateful for this opportunity. That’s all I am thinking about right now,” Das said in an interview to PTI.
The actor, who is currently enjoying the success of his streaming show “Call Me Bae” on Prime Video, said he is excited and nervous about hosting the show, which is known for recognising the best in international television.
“It has been a great week, thank God. The show I was on has been well received and I am excited to host it. I am doing the show, it is a time for us to celebrate, but I personally will celebrate when I am done with my work and I have done a good job. So, it is great to have this job, but I still have to work,” Das said.
When asked if the pressure of hosting a grand awards ceremony is similar to the one he feels while preparing for his stand-up act or show, Das said it is much bigger.
“I only have eight to 10 minutes for the opening monologue. I have to do it right. I think it’s two weeks after the US elections, so I have to think about that as well. There will be a lot of nominees, a lot of pictures and you have to talk about it. It’s an interesting writing task, the tone is very specific,” he said.
