The official trailer for Charlie Pollinger’s coming-of-age thriller, The Plague, has been released by Independent Film Company. The film, which explores the strange and brutal landscape of boyhood, stars Joel Edgerton alongside emerging talents like Kayo Martin, Everett Blunk and Kenny Rasmussen. Hollywood News.

The Plague: Trailer
The film is set at a water polo camp and stars Everett Blunk as Ben, who is repeatedly picked on by the camp’s bullies. The film chronicles the journey of a socially awkward 12-year-old who unknowingly becomes involved in an evil ritual that targets a sickly outcast, referred to by the campers as “the Plague”. The one and a half minute trailer perfectly captures the dark and tense atmosphere the film’s synopsis outlines.
The film’s producer Joel Edgerton told indiewire Director Charlie Pollinger wanted to tell “his experiences as a 12-year-old boy in Australia” in the film.
The Plague, which received critical acclaim in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, will be released in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on December 24. According to The Hollywood News, the film will have a wide release across North America on January 2, 2026.

Everett Blunk (Ben) plays the protagonist in The Plague. On the other hand, Joel Edgerton has been cast as Daddy Wags, while Elliot Heffernan plays the role of Tic Tac in the film. Other notable names in the cast include Kayo Martin, Kenny Rasmussen, Lennox Espy, Lucas Adler, and Caden Burris.
Pollinger collaborated with cinematographer Steven Bracken on The Plague, which was shot on 35 mm film in Bucharest, Romania.
Henry Hayes and Simon Njoo edited the film, while Johanna Lennox composed its score. In addition to Joel Edgerton, Lizzie Shapiro, Lucy McKendrick, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, and Derek Dochy co-produced the film.
