Then came Haseen Dilruba Review: Dinesh Pandit’s grip loosens in the sequel, Sunny surpasses Taapsee and Vikrant in acting.

Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey starrer ‘Phir Ai Haseen Dilruba’ is back on Netflix with revenge, love, lust, mystery and drama. This romance-thriller has the touch of Abbas Mastan and also has an old Bollywood feel to it. As in the first part, towards Rani in Phir Ai Hasin Dilruba.moneyLove is shown in more depth.

However, this time there is a third wheel in his story. Neil may have died for the right reasons, but here Abhimanyu, played by Sunny Kaushal, is the lover everyone aspires to be (unless you actually know him, of course). Rishu’s Inspector Montu Mama played by Jimmy Shergill also adds to the complexities and possibilities of the story. But it’s OG- Dinesh Pandit and his writing that doesn’t leave us behind even for a moment this time. Phir Ai Haasin Dilruba is one of the most awaited sequels of this year. But do the manufacturers live up to our expectations? Let’s find out…
Then came the beautiful Dilrubathe story
The story of ‘Phir Ai Haasin Dilruba’ starts with Abhimanyu who always looks amused when Rani comes. Now Abhimanyu is the imaginary green flag that social media is obsessed with these days. He is soft-spoken, loving, faithful, kind and patient like Moses. However, he is in love with Rani, who is totally crazy about her husband Rishu. Taapsee is undoubtedly looking the best of her career in ‘Phir Ai Haseen Dilruba’. With backless blouses, immaculate sarees and trademark roses, she looks stunning in every frame, I mean we understand the reason behind Abhimanyu’s obsession with her.
In the city of Taj Mahal, the trio, Rishu, Rani and Abhimanyu, have their own careers and run towards their goals. Abhimanyu, the compounder only wants to win the queen, while the seniors are just looking for the right opportunity to move out of India, settle in Thailand and make a fresh start.

Rani works hard at the beauty parlor to fulfill her dreams, on the other hand, from pizza delivery to coaching, Rishu is able to do everything and that too with just one hand. The film focuses only on these three and their progress in the first trimester and then the first highlight moment comes when Senior Inspector played by Aditya Srivastava sees Rani. In addition, he also brings Neil’s uncle Montu Mama along to solve the unsolved mystery.

And as Jimmy Shergill says ‘it’s personal’, he personally looks into every aspect to solve the case as he is sure that Rishu is not dead and Rani is not a widow. From Dinesh Pandit’s book ‘Kasauti Ka Kahar’, Agra Police is sure that the controversial case is also based on this conspiracy.

However, things turn serious when Rani marries Abhimanyu to prove a point. But is Abhimanyu as simple as he seems, and what about Rishu? Did Rani cheat Rishu with Abhimanyu and was Montu Mama able to catch Rishu? The story solves each mystery one by one, maybe not in a good way, but by the end of the film all the answers are found.

acting
Phir Ai Haseen Dilruba mainly revolves around Vikrant, Taapsee and Sunny. While Taapsee as mentioned earlier is attractive in every frame, Vikrant looks dull in the film. Also, both his anger and madness are missing in the first part.

Remember, the part in the first movie, where Rishu did everything to hurt Rani, those eyes, that anger and bitterness, are all missing in the sequel. Although there was plenty of scope to go crazy, there wasn’t much left for the actor to do. The same can be said for Taapsee. Rani’s character is very good in most parts of the sequel.

In ‘Phir Ai Haasin Dilruba’, his passion and madness seems to be missing. But Sunny Kaushal dominates the screen every time. He is a psycho lover who brings the charm of a series of films like Hasin Dilruba. In many places he becomes the anchor of the film.
Sunny Kaushal is excellent in the film. He is funny, charming and conveys every emotion very well. Audiences may also like his character as he is new to the film series. Rishu and Rani are older characters and can be judged based on their previous appearance as there is something to compare them to, but Abhimanyu is new and likable.

On the other hand, Jimmy Shergill as Montu Mama doesn’t get much either as he is always behind the story. His hands are never on the steering wheel of the story. Aditya Srivastava is the same and seems to be in the wider version of CID. However, Bhumika Dube is surprising.
Directing and writing
Phir Ai Hasin Dilruba is directed by Jaiprad Desai. The director seems to be trying his best to make the film good and interesting but loses his grip on several occasions. Writer Kanika Dhillon should also be held responsible for these shortcomings. The duo could not create the magic in ‘Phir Ai Hasin Dilruba’, which they created in the previous film. In ‘Hasin Dilruba’ there were many important things along with thrill but this time it is not like that.

Also, some aspects seem illogical and may remind you of some of Abbas Mastan’s films. Jaiprad Desai and Kanika Dhillon’s haphazard use of natural resources and creatures also disappoints at times. Like jumping from a height into a waterfall and getting out easily or having an easy fight with a crocodile twice your size seems illogical.

If the writers had kept the film more authentic and a bit relatable this time, the sequel would have been more effective. Another setback for ‘Phir Ai Haasin Dilruba’ is its music. The first part didn’t have much music, but it went well with this film too, but not better than the sequel ‘Hasin Dilruba’. Please don’t expect any different music from this movie, because you will be disappointed. Only the old song ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ sets the tone of the film, raises your expectations and the rest of the music destroys that expectation.
What movie should I watch?
‘Phir I Haseen Dilruba’ is a one time watch movie. Also, those who liked the first part must watch this one. This movie deserves to be watched by its loyal audience and after this movie ends, one can expect a better movie as its third part. ‘Phir Ai Hasin Dilruba’ actually ends on an interesting note and knowing the writer, one can hope that she will come back with better homework next time. However, for now, one can watch this film for Sunny Kaushal’s acting, Taapsee Pannu’s screen presence and Vikrant Massey’s range. ‘Phir Ai Haasin Dilruba’ deserves 2.5 stars and is now available on Netflix.
