Early life of Sudha Murthy
Sudha Murthy was born in a Kannada speaking family. His father was a surgeon and his mother was a school teacher. He was brought up by his parents and maternal grandparents. His childhood inspired many of his notable works, including How I Taught My Grandmother to Read, Wise and Otherwise, and Other Stories.
Education and career
Sudha Murthy started her professional career in computer science and engineering. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BVB College of Engineering and Technology (now known as KLE Technological University) and later obtained his Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
She became the first woman engineer to be appointed to Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), India’s largest automobile manufacturer.
Social work and achievements
Apart from being an author, Sudha Murthy is the Founder-Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization. In 2024, he was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member for his contribution to social work and education.
He was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, in 2006 for his social work. In 2023, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award.
