A24 has released the first full trailer EdingtonDirector Ery Ester’s latest film, Joquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal in lead roles. During the summer of 2020, the film investigates political and social stress in the fictional city of Edington, New Mexico during the height of the film Kovid -19 epidemic and after the killing of George Floid.

The Phoenix Star Sheriff who, as a cross, challenges a local law enforcement officer, who challenges Mayor Ted Garcia played by Pascal in a controversial mayor race. The trailer presents a sharp division between the two characters as the city becomes a subtle world of widespread unrest across the United States at that time. The images of social deformity, protest and the principles of conspiracy appear with scenes of increasing violence and political division.
According to the trailer, the story focuses on the growing conflict between cross and Garcia and how it threatens to destabilize 2,345 inhabitants of the city.
Artists also include Austin Butler, Emma Stone, Luke Grims, Deyardre O’connell, Mitchell Ward, Amelie Hofral, Clifton Collins Junior and William Belleu.
Edington Is the fourth feature of Aster Hereditary (2018), Midsomor (2019), and Bey fear (2023). Unlike its earlier work in the horror, the film marks a change in political drama with Western influences.
The film’s premiere was at the Cannes Film Festival of 2025, where it was released in the main competition section. Preliminary reactions were mixed, some critics praised its ambition.

At a press conference during Cannes, Pascal addressed questions about the film’s political content. “Fear is the way they win,” he said. “Keep telling the stories, keep expressing yourself and keep fighting who you are… F ** K people who try to fear you, you know and fight back.”
Edington It is scheduled for dramatic release on 18 July.
