Trimurti Films has filed a copyright infringement suit in the Bombay High Court against Dharma Productions, Namah Pictures, music label Saregama and rapper Badshah, alleging unauthorized use of the classic Hindi cinema track.‘Across the seven seas’ from the 1992 film ‘World Soul’ In the teaser of Dharma’s upcoming Hindi film ‘You are mine, I am yours, and you are mine.,

The petition claims that the teaser prominently features the song’s signature beats and hook line without obtaining consent from the original creator, and seeks immediate ad-hoc and interim injunction, disclosure of licensing agreements and damages of ₹10 crore.

The lawsuit states that the film starring Kartik Aryan and Ananya Panday in the lead roles is scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2025, further escalating the controversy.

The petition states that although Saregama has distribution rights to the track, its agreement does not allow it to grant film-sync licenses without the express approval of the original producer. Trimurti Films argues that no artistic or financial consent was sought before including the song in the teaser, and that the respondents’ actions constitute copyright infringement and violation of moral rights.

Under a 1990 agreement, Saregama was given only limited mechanical rights and no rights to license the songs for synchronization or remix in a new film. Trinity alleges that the defendants acted in concert, misrepresented their rights, and entered into a false relationship with the plaintiff to pass them off. It argues that unauthorized use infringes copyright and moral rights and causes irreparable harm.

The petition also cites misrepresentation and unfair trade practices as grounds, seeks an ad-interim injunction without notice to prevent further exploitation, and requests delivery of infringing material for destruction. It also seeks to account for the profits earned by the defendants as alternative relief. It was said in the petition that Saregama has filed a caveat fearing a lawsuit.

The relief sought includes an injunction restraining the respondents from using ‘‘Across the seven seas’ Disclosure of all agreements relating to the use of the song, in any form, in the film or its promotional materials, and compensation for unauthorized exploitation of the intellectual property.

The case was listed before single bench judge Justice Sharmila Deshmukh, who gave time to the defendants to file their replies. The case will be heard on December 22.

During the hearing, senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond appeared on behalf of Trimurti Films assisted by advocate Hiren Kamod. The case was filed through lawyers Rashmi Singh and Karan Khiyani.
