TV actor t. Ravichandran sought anticipatory bail after Kamal Haasan allegedly threatened to death

Chennai: Television actor T. Ravichandran has contacted the Madras High Court, demanding anticipatory bail after the Central Crime Branch of Chennai Police (CCB), booked a case against him to issue a case against him to issue a death threat to Kamal Haasan, a member of the Rajya Sabha and the founder of Makkal Needi Miam (MNM).

On Monday, Justice G. Jaichandran listened to the petition and directed the advocate of the government to receive details from the CCB before posting the case for further hearing.

Ravichandran told the court that the remarks he made during a Youtube interview was “unknowingly” and not as a real threat.

The controversy began when Hassan stressed the importance of education as a tool for social change, speaking at the 15th anniversary ceremony of the Australia Foundation of actor Suria earlier this month.

He said that education was the “only weapon” that was able to describe as huts of Sanatan Dharma.

Ravichandran, reacting to an interview with a YouTube channel, strongly objected to the choice of Hassan’s words. He warned that if such comments continue, he would cut the MP’s throat.

The statement triggered wide criticism and alarm, which on August 10 led the MNM vice -president and retired IPS officer AG Morya to file a formal complaint with the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner.

The complaint was sent to CCB, which lodged the first information report (FIR) against the actor.

In his bail plea, Ravichandran argued that the FIR was registered without preliminary investigation and claimed that he was unaware of the specific offense.

He further stated that he had no real intention to harm Haasan, saying that he had come from a “respectable family background” and was ready to follow any condition, considering his request for bail.

After the police hearing, the High Court will again take up the case on 20 August.
