One of Glen Powell’s most prized possessions is his “Iconic Wisdom” journal; it is a book he has kept throughout his career, in which he writes down the most important insights he has gleaned from the projects, filmmakers, and actors he has worked with.
Naturally, this magazine is filled with his wisdom. Top Gun: Maverick Tom Cruise, co-star and now friend, mentor and guide to all things magical in life: Tom Cruise. In an old interview, Powell revealed one of her favorite pieces of advice from the superstar; Cruise doesn’t just pick the best roles, he picks the best projects and then makes those roles great.
It’s something Powell has been consciously trying to do since the $1.5 billion box-office success. Rogue (2022) changed his life overnight (not to mention being credited with reviving the dramatic rom-com Anybody but youAnd his incredibly brilliant performance in Richard Linklater’s film Hitman) and eventually led to him signing on for the upcoming TwistersA standalone sequel to the 1996 blockbuster disaster epic.

director Minari Filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung, and also starring Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, Fresh, where the crawdads sing) and Anthony Ramos (Hamilton,in the heights), the film stars Powell as Tyler Owens, a shameless but charismatic storm-chasing social media star who crosses paths with meteorologist Kate Cooper (Edgar-Jones) and her colleague Javi (Ramos), who are testing a new tornado tracking system. As storm season approaches central Oklahoma, the trio are caught in the fight of their lives as they try to escape—and possibly tame—several unpredictable tornadoes that will destroy anything in their path.
Why is Daisy the best student in the cast?
It was a big surprise for them Twisters Looking at the co-stars, Powell winked and said that they are both part of her diary now that she has completed shooting for the ambitious project.
“One of the things I learned from Daisy for My Diary is the way she breaks down a character. She has an amazing process where she lays out the whole film in a detailed way, almost like a filmmaker. It really allows you to see the whole arc and temperature of different aspects of the film. I’m not Type A like Daisy, she’s actually the best student of the film in the cast Twisters(laughs) But it’s great that she played her character so deliberately even though she was part of a film that had a lot happening on the effects and stunts front,” he commented lightly.
“Anthony, on the other hand … has a beautiful sense of playfulness. Every day, he approaches his job with a childlike wonder, taking his brother everywhere and making sure people are laughing on set,” says Powell.
“As an actor, you sometimes forget that people are looking to you to set the tone on set; Anthony has such a charming and infectious smile that everyone sees him and instantly smiles! A film set can be the most amazing place on earth, and Anthony takes it upon himself to maintain it very proudly and remind us of that,” he jokes.

There has been a lot of talk during the press tour about the chemistry between Powell and Edgar-Jones (fans still haven’t gotten over the hullabaloo over his equation with Sydney Sweeney during the press tour). Anybody but you Promo…) which has further increased the curiosity about the film.
It’s summer for all three
But what helped them bond on set was Edgar-Jones’ amazing taste in music, as they spent long hours shooting inside cars in open landscapes, so much so that she became the resident DJ on set (her new nickname is DJ EJ); what were they listening to?
“Well, first of all, we all like it Twisters A great soundtrack in its own right. It’s amazing and has an incredible cast…almost like the Avengers of country music. Music is a very enjoyable, huge part of the movie and really integral to storm chasing. You’re in the car for hours, and driving on very flat surfaces, so you need some form of entertainment to keep you going,” Daisy said.

normal people The star, who was recently spotted at the Glastonbury music festival with her friends, actors Paul Mescal, Saoirse Ronan and more, says, “My music tastes are very varied; I love the classics because I inherited all of my parents’ vinyl as a kid. So I grew up listening to the soundtracks of their childhood, and they have really good taste in music… from Al Green to Pink Floyd. I love anything that has funk and a beat, really. I also introduced these guys to Charli XCX because I’m very into club and dance music these days, and it’s Brat Summer! We were just doing the viral Apple Dance today…”
Like any sequel, there are plenty of homages TwistersAll the actors are very excited about this, being fans of the original film. “Some scenes from the original film twister There are many other small homages as well as many other things that have been recreated in this film. For example, Kate’s character of Daisy is reminiscent of the character played by Bill Paxton in the 1996 version – she has been reanimated and brought back to this world she left behind after a disastrous encounter – and she even gets a chance to recite one of her iconic lines,” says Powell, who considers herself a movie trivia buff.

“What I learned from my time Top Gun: Maverick It’s that when you’re making a franchise film, you have to find elements of the original film that you respect, but the new film has to exist on its own merits. You can’t just rely on nostalgia or tricks of the past. That’s where our director Lee Isaac Chung comes in; he grew up in a part of the world where tornadoes happen and he knows the community that lives in those areas very well. So we tried to respect the spirit of the original film, the community of storm chasers, and update it without being too derivative. And I think we succeeded,” he says, smiling.
Daisy immediately speaks up, “Besides… the first twister The film was one of the first to be released on DVD after its theatrical run. During the shoot, Bill would give the weather report at the start of every filming day!”

How Steven Spielberg went to bat for Anthony
For stage actor and singer Ramos, it was one of the most memorable moments of his career. Twisters The experience came after executive producer Steven Spielberg asked him not to use a Southern accent for his role; it made the actor feel that, “it’s possible for a kid like that to study meteorology, become a brilliant meteorologist and storm chaser. It’s something a kid like me could do.”
Ramos says he was initially set on speaking with a southern accent. “But when I heard that Spielberg wanted me to keep my dialect, I was really grateful. I speak like a Puerto Rican guy from Bushwick, Brooklyn, and I’ve never heard anyone play a scientist in a movie with that kind of dialect… let alone one of this scale. Of course, playing Javi required some work, but it was really great to play him with that kind of local language and vocabulary. That was one less worry!”
Twisters will release in cinemas on July 18
