New Delhi: A day after the release of ‘Udaipur files’ in theaters across India, producer Amit Jani claimed that he was receiving “death threats” on the film.
In an X post on Saturday, Jani said that he was getting repeated calls from an unknown number, in which the collar threatened to kill him or shoot him. Jani said that the caller introduced himself as Tabrez, a resident of Bihar. In his post, Jani urged the authorities to register a case against Tabrez and arrest them.

Last month, the central government gave the creator of ‘Udaipur files’ in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh’ Y ‘-Category Armed Security Cover’. A few days after the Supreme Court contacted the police and demanded security, as he was in danger to his life. The safety of the Y-region involves the expansion of 8 to 11 personnel including commandos to protect the person around the clock.
The film was released across India across India on Friday, August 8, when the Delhi High Court on Thursday gave a go-forward for its release.
It was initially slate for release on 11 July, but faced several delays due to censorship and legal troubles. The Supreme Court directed the Delhi High Court to face the challenges against the release government’s approval of the film.
The film is based on the murder of 2022, a tailor, which was widely killed in its shop in Udaipur, Rajasthan, after two men allegedly after their controversial comments on a private news channel to share a social media post in support of former BJP member Nupur Sharma.
According to police reports since 2022, the prominent accused, Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Gaus Mohammed entered Lal’s shop, who was pretending to be dressed before attacking with a knife and wearing clothes before killing his throat. He recorded a brutal murder and broadcast the video on social media, claiming responsibility for the heinous act, which triggered national outrage and raised serious concerns about radical and communal violence.
The accused were booked under the Prevention of Strict illegal activities in addition to provisions under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Initially, the matter was investigated by the Rajasthan Police, but the National Investigation Agency (NIA) later handled it. The case is pending before the Special NIA court in Jaipur.
The film starring Vijay Raaz in the lead role is directed by Shrinet and Jayant Sinha of India, and is produced by Amit Jani.
