Jennifer Lopez recently appeared at the American Music Awards (AMAs) in celebration of the ceremony’s 50th anniversary. During the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary special, which aired Sunday, October 6.
“It’s pretty incredible, isn’t it? Fifty Years of the American Music Awards. I remember watching them at home when I was a little girl,” she shared in a taped AMA interview. The nostalgia continued when he watched his first appearance at the AMAs in 2001.
Lopez’s appearance at the special event comes amid her ongoing split from actor Ben Affleck. The pair were most recently spotted having lunch with their kids at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel on September 14. Despite the friendly outing, sources close to Lopez and Affleck confirm that they are “still moving forward with the divorce” and will remain so. Focused on co-parenting their children.

Continuing in the video, as footage of her performances from that year appeared on the screen, a laughing Lopez said, “What? It was a long time ago – but the energy in the room was very electric. Lopez, wearing a pink pussy-bow silk blouse for the segment, explained how the excitement of being a part of the AMAs has stayed with her over the years.
“Winning an award voted on by fans is incredibly special because it comes directly from the people you make music for. It’s a humbling experience,” he expressed, recalling 2011 when he won the Favorite Latin Artist award.
Lopez also recalled the year she hosted the AMAs in 2015 and called the role “a huge honor.”
“I have decided that whenever I come out there, I will change [onstage]”she explained. “We did this dance medley to all these amazing songs from that year, and I wanted everyone to feel that love and energy.”

“Maybe I’ll do it again one day. Who knows?” he expressed, adding, “Music really has the power to heal and uplift us and connect us, and the AMAs have been demonstrating that for half a century now.”
“And I’m excited for the next 50 years of music – and magic,” he concluded.
