Urfi Javed is a naughty woman. And she has no regrets about it. This is her new role in the current version MTV Splitsvilla X5 : Exsqueeze Me Please, dating reality show. Unlike the previous season, this time she is not pretending to be a contestant. She says, “I just create mischief in the lives of the contestants.”
The 26-year-old believes her unique clothing is what has earned her such recognition
“Apart from a prankster, this time we also have ex-lovers. There are a lot of ups and downs. The love triangle is what I like the most. And the contestants are very outspoken and I am loving it,” he said over a video call from Mumbai.
The 26-year-old made her television debut in 2015 crooked family on Big Magic. That channel is now closed, so not many people knew about my debut. After that I did many other serials like unguarded, Kasauti Zindagi Ki 2, what is this relationship called…, She says.
While she was working on soap operas, she was simultaneously making her own clothes. “I was always interested in fashion and sewing clothes for Instagram. It was all DIY. Then, about two and a half years ago, I started going viral.” That’s when she decided to take fashion seriously. “So I thought, let’s make clothes that will go viral,” she says.
Oorfi, who creates such bold, interesting designs, says she doesn’t know where her ideas come from or what inspires her. She says she takes her ideas to her “masterji” (tailor) who gives a physical form to her instructions.
It is her unique clothes that have brought her so much fame. When she joined Instagram and was just working in serials, she had around one million followers. But in the last two years, this number has grown to 4.8 million. She admits, “I just wanted to go viral.”
From praises from Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karan Johar to critics criticising her outfits, Urfi has seen it all. “They won’t understand, you have to prove it to them. I have been consistent with my journey, my evolution. My agenda is to become something and be the best version of myself.” Her own favourites include her butterfly outfit (a black gown with green leaf motifs that flutter like butterflies), bird outfit (a little black dress with two mechanical birds hovering over her shoulders) and an upcoming outfit with a print of the Taj Mahal.
Has she ever thought of starting her own label? “It’s too much hard work and I can’t do it,” she says, adding, “From a business point of view I don’t know if it’s profitable. I don’t know if my 4.8 million followers will buy them.” Anyway, most of her followers are men, she says. “Men follow me, women follow me,” she smiles.
A favourite of Mumbai’s paparazzi, they always shoot her whether it’s the gym or the airport. And how do they know where she goes? Is it a PR stunt or do they keep an eye on her? “You will get to know about this and much more in my new reality show. It’s called Follow me friend,
And ladies and gentlemen, that’s how you market yourself.
