Singer Usha Uthup said she did not want to just sit at home and was doing what her late husband Jani Chacko Uthup wanted.
Singer Usha Uthup, who recently lost her husband, is back on stage again. Talking about how she is coping with the demise of her husband, Uthup told us, “It was a very bad moment for me. I lost my husband. It was really sad.” Uthup’s husband Jani Chacko Uthup died of a heart attack on July 8. He was 78 years old.
The 76-year-old singer said she is determined to return to the stage and has given a few performances this month. “It took a lot of courage for me to get back to doing live shows after such a short hiatus [after her husband’s passing]She says, “What could I do? Those were shows I had already accepted.”

She explains that she did not want to sit at home and that she is doing what her late husband would have wanted. “I do not believe in sitting at home and crying because it does not make any sense. She [her husband] She says, “He was the one who helped me move ahead and make my career. He never interfered in my life and always said, ‘Go and sing!’ That’s what I am doing and that has given me a lot of peace.”
She further adds, “As long as I keep singing, I am fine. It is the only thing that helps me forget those terrible things. Music connects everyone and brings a smile to everyone’s face.”
The singer feels that performing on stage can help her feel better and keep her husband by her side in her own way. “I have always been a positive thinker. I am looking forward to doing many more big public shows. The way to keep him alive is through my music and performance.”
Uthup will soon be performing with her mentor, actor-singer Sushant Divgikar, in a live show in Delhi on August 24. “Sushant is a wonderful singer. She was a little girl when we first met. I have seen her singing improve over time, she has matured into a great artiste. She has a different magic in doing both male and female voices. I am very excited to work with her once again,” she said.
