Chennai: Famous Tamil lyricist and poet Vairamuthu called the Tamil film industry to use songs of his songs as a film title without his permission.
Taking his X handle, Vairamuthu reported how many popular songs of his have been converted into a film title over the years, often demanding his consent.
His post written in Tamil, lax translated, “Many of my verses have been used by the Tamil film industry as the title of the film. Any of them, who have taken him, have not sought my permission or even sought a word for honor.”
In a long post on X, the lyricist also cited some popular Tamil films, which used his songs as the title of his film. While the lyricist did not mention the copyright issue, he called the Tamil film industry to discourage and did not seek permission before using them.
He wrote, “Despite taking my song lines without acknowledgment, I never reprimanded anyone nor whenever I met him and wherever he met him, in a society where money is not shared, I enjoy the fact that knowledge becomes at least a normal property.”

The post received mixed reactions from the neti, many people said that the songs used in their songs do not require permission to convert into the title of the film as they are part of the Tamil language.
In response to the post, actor Aadhaar Kannadasan, who is known for his films Yamirukka Bamei and ‘Karungapiam’, clarified that he sought permission from him (lyricist Virimuthu) to use his songs as a film title for his film ‘Ponmalai Pozudhu’ in 2013.
He wrote, “We have got your permission for #ponmaAlaiPozhudhu with Sir with Sir because U has mentioned that this is a special feeling because #kaviyarasukannadasan’s grandchildren are using your songs as a film title. You felt proud.
