Varun Dhawan on playing double role in Baby John: ‘Reminded me of Amitabh Bachchan’s Hum’

New Delhi: Bollywood star Varun Dhawan on Wednesday said he took inspiration from megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic film “Hum” while preparing to play a double role in the upcoming action feature “Baby John”.

Dhawan, known for ‘Badlapur’, ‘October’ and ‘Bhediya’, said Bachchan will continue to inspire the new generation of actors.

Varun Dhawan is taking inspiration from Amitabh for Baby John

Directed by Mukul Anand, “Hum” is based on a dock worker named Tiger (Bachchan), who changes his name to Shekhar to protect his family from his violent past. The 1991 film also starred Rajinikanth, Govinda, Kimi Katkar and Shilpa Shirodkar.

“I loved ‘Hum’ and it had Rajnikanth sir, Govinda ji and Mukul Anand is one of my favorite directors. When he made the film, it was ahead of its time. The way he combined Amit ji’s past and present. Showed it, it was very good.

“Amit ji has done so many iconic films, there is a lot to learn from him, the new generation of actors should not forget that Bible. There is a shot in ‘Hum’ where he fights and then runs. I thought while doing that I thought of that scene in this movie,” the actor told reporters at the press conference of “Baby John.”

Varun on doing Baby John

In the film directed by Kallis, Dhawan will play the role of a policeman named Satya Varma and John will play his alter ego.

The actor said that ‘Baby John’ was the most emotionally challenging film of his career.

He further added, “There were certain scenes where I felt emotionally exhausted. Kallis sir would ask me not to get emotional but sometimes I would break down.”

Dhawan also thanked singer Diljit Dosanjh for lending his voice to the song “Nain Matakka” in the film. They are also set to share screen space in the upcoming war drama “Border 2”.

“Working with Diljit was very easy, we had a lot of fun together. He is a pure artist, it is beautiful to watch him perform. I am going to work with him as a co-star in ‘Border 2’. I am grateful to Diljit paaji for the song ‘Main’.” “Baby John”, which also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh and Jackie Shroff, marks the Hindi production debut of “Jawaan” fame Atlee and his wife Priya Mohan under A for Apple Studios.

Atlee praised the cast and director of the film.

Keerthy Suresh on her Bollywood debut

‘Mahanati’ star Suresh, who is making his Bollywood debut with ‘Baby John’, said he is happy to be a part of the film.

“Atlee and I have been friends for a long time but this is the first time that we are working together. Hopefully next time it will be in his direction. I am happy to work with Vamika, I like her work.” The National Award winner said, ‘Godha’ (Malayalam film). Varun is a great actor and you will see a different side of him in this film.

Gabby, whose credits include “Khufiya”, “Jubilee” and “Eclipse”, said she was looking forward to doing a larger-than-life film like “Baby John”.

“This world of ‘Baby John’ is different and I was excited to be a part of it. It’s not that we all grow up watching realistic movies, we all watch larger-than-life movies. I wanted to be a part of this world And I am happy that I got a chance in this film.”

“Baby John”, backed by Jio Studios, is set to release on the big screens on December 25.
