Venice Film Festival Awards winners: Anuparna Roy Triumphs of India, Gaza film The Voice of Hind Rajb Shock Los

The Venice Film Festival 2025 concluded with its award ceremony on Saturday, where an Indian director also won for the first time.

The 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival concluded on Saturday with its award ceremony. Some of the most acclaimed and famous films around the world competed in the main festival segment, as well as the prestigious originti (horizon) section.

Anuparna Roy of India won the best director at the Horizons section at the prestigious Venice Film Festival.

Indian filmmaker Anuparna Roy made history with Jeet, the Best Director for the song of Forgotton Trees at the Horizons section. It was the only Indian film in controversy at the prestigious festival.

In the main competition, where 21 films competed, American Indie film Father Mother Sister Brother made a surprise by defeating Hind Rajab’s voice for Golden Lion. A film about the Gaza crisis, The Voice of Hind Rajab received a 22 -minute standing ovation at the festival.

Here are the winners of two major sections on the festival:

main section:

Golden Lion for Best Film – Jim Jaramash (United States) by father’s mother and sister brother

Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize – The Voice of Hind Rajab by Cowathar Ben Hania (Tunisia)

Silver Lion Award for Best Director – Beni Safi for Smashing Machine (United States)

Volley Cup Award for Best Actress – Shin Zilli for the Sun rises on all of us (China)

Volley Cup Award for Best Actor – Tony Surillo for La Grazia (Italy)

Best screenplay – Valerie Donzeli (France) a victim D’Oovare (at work)

Special jury prize – Jianfranco Rosie (Italy) by Soto Le Nuvol (under clouds)

Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress – Luna Vedaller in Silent Friend by Idlico AND (Switzerland)

Orizzonti section:

Best movie – NL Camino by David Publos (Mexico)

Best director – Anuparna Roy (India) for forgotten songs for forgotten trees

Special jury prize – Land lost by Akayo Fujimoto (Japan)

best Actor – Jiakomo Covin for one year of school (Italy)

best Actress – Benedata Porcaroli for the kidnapping of Arabella (Italy)

Best screenplay – Ana Christina Bargan for Hidra (Ecuador)

Best short movie – without Kelly by Lavisa Siren (Sweden)
