Veteran voice actor Morgan Lofting is no more. She is most recognized for her role as the Baroness, the vicious Cobra senior intelligence officer who wreaked havoc in the G.I. Joe animated series and films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lofting died on Wednesday at his home in Burbank, his agents Neri Lemus and Christopher Arcaga of CelebWorks announced.
“As one of our agency’s 10 founding actors, she meant a lot to us and our company,” he said in a statement.
The voice actress also portrayed Aunt May and the Black Cat for the 1981–82 Spider-Man series and Moonracer and Firestar for the 1985 Transformers series, and she also did voice work in Total Recall (1990) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Lofting came up with a European accent for the dark-haired Baroness, a sexy master of disguise and an expert in weapons and hand-to-hand combat, who wore black-rimmed glasses and a tight black leather dress.
He provided the voice of the Terrorist in the GI Joe miniseries in 1983, ’84 and ’89; For four seasons the two series aired in 1985–86 and 1990–91; Joe: Arise, Serpentor, Arise! In; and in 1987 in the straight-to-video G.I. Joe: The Movie.
Born on February 2, 1940, in Cincinnati, Lofting also appeared in four episodes of the CBS primetime soap Knots Landing in 1986–87 and in the 1988 film The Night Before, starring Keanu Reeves and Lori Loughlin.
In 1989, she went back to college to complete her undergraduate degree and then earned a master’s degree in history from Cal State Northridge. She later found a passion as a librarian, “bartending with books”, as she called it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, she returned to voice acting in 2013 by playing the former villain Fistina in Ben 10: Omniverse.
Lofting, 84, is survived by his brother, Tim, his wife, Lynn, and their son, Brian; his son, Justin, and his wife, Stacey; and her grandchildren, Zach and Ellie.
