In a blockbuster Friday, Vidya Balan, perhaps Kolkata’s most popular non-Bengali actress, enthralled cinephiles at the ongoing Kolkata International Film Festival. Enjoying the success of horror comedy maze 3Vidya Balan told The Hindu“As I get older physically, I want to get older mentally too.”
The actress, who made a name for herself by playing a series of deeply contradictory characters, now wants to play some “fun” roles. “Women-oriented cinema has seen success in the last few years. Now, it’s time to diversify. Vidya Balan said, comedy is a genre where women are under-represented in lead roles. After Covid, she wanted to watch light things and be a part of comedy. She said, growing up, she wanted to be a mix of Shabana Azmi and Sridevi and be as versatile as their inspirations. He said that he did not hold himself back even in Instagram reels. “As an actor, I never let ego come in the way of performing.”
She said that she always celebrated her body and since she was going through a body transformation, she made the different stages public. “It was a health problem that forced me to choose this path, but now it has made me a candidate to play roles demanding a light physique.” He denied that his pursuit of comedy was related to the doctor’s prescription. “The current stage may also change,” she adds, “but she’s glad she never let her size hold her back from owning herself and living her dream.”
On her equation as an actor with her producer husband Siddharth Roy Kapur, Vidya Balan said that they discussed each other’s work but did not encroach on each other’s territory. “I am not interested in becoming a producer. I believe that people should continue to do what they know best. The desire to do a lot of things is the reason for the growing mediocrity around us,” she said.
