Vikramaditya Motwane criticizes Pushpa 2 for dominating theaters, sidelining everything we imagine as Prakash

While Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule is breaking box office records, acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane has expressed his dissatisfaction over the film’s wide screen allocation.

What did Vikramaditya Motwane say?

The director took to Instagram Stories to express his disappointment, and compared the screen availability for ‘Pushpa 2’ to the limited theatrical run of Payal Kapadia’s critically acclaimed ‘All We Imagine as Light’, which was recently released on two screens. Golden Globe nominations were received.

After congratulating Kapadia on his historic achievement, Motwane lamented the lack of support for his film in theatres. Sharing a screenshot highlighting the multiple daily screenings of Pushpa 2, she wrote, “And yet, Payal’s incredible success will mean as much to us as we will tossing her film out, not letting it breathe or find an audience, And will do.” A multiplex has 36 shows of a film in a day. Congratulations. We deserve it.”

Pushpa 2: The Rule Box Office Collection

Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule is the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The film, released on December 5, stars Allu Arjun reprising the role of Pushpa Raj, who now heads the Red Sanders smuggling operation. Rashmika Mandanna returned as Srivalli, while Fahadh Faasil played the role of rival policeman Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat.

The film has been a massive success and has grossed over ₹590 crore within a few days of its release, it is expected to cross ₹600 crore by Tuesday. The film also sets the stage for the franchise’s next installment, Pushpa 3: The Rampage.

About everything we imagine as light

Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light has earned historic recognition by garnering nominations at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards for Best Director and Best Motion Picture in a Non-English Language. Kapadia is the first Indian filmmaker to be nominated in the Best Director category, a major achievement for Indian cinema.

The Malayalam-Hindi film tells the story of two nurses, Prabha and Anu, who are on a journey of love and life in Mumbai with their friend Parvati. Starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam, the film created a stir by winning the prestigious Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
