Vikrant Massey says he wrote his retirement post at night; Felt creatively satiated and couldn’t sleep.

Mumbai: Vikrant Massey recently opened up about his viral Instagram post, which was initially misinterpreted as a retirement announcement. At the Times Network India Economic Conclave, Vikrant clarified that the post indicated a temporary career break driven by creative and physical exhaustion rather than a permanent departure from the industry.

Vikrant shared that he wrote this emotional note late at night as he was unable to sleep due to the tremendous success of his recent films, 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report. Reflecting on the past few years, he said, “The past few years have indeed been phenomenal. I reflect on them with utmost humility and gratitude. Things became remarkable after the 12th fail. But when I saw that post at midnight When I wrote it, I felt creatively saturated.”

Massey described the surreal moment when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Cabinet saw the Sabarmati report. “The very next day after my post, PM Modi and the entire cabinet were going to watch my film. I never thought this would happen in my life. The love and reception the film received was tremendous. “I may seem pompous, but I am honest.”

Vikrant admitted that the constant work schedule and the emotional burden of his projects has left him exhausted. He revealed that last year he worked 284 days out of 365, which led to physical exhaustion and creative stagnation. He shared, “I was talking to my wife Sheetal Thakur and we talked about how much more an actor can achieve in this country. I felt the time had come to reinvent myself as an actor and improve my craft.

Addressing the confusion surrounding his Instagram post, Vikrant said, “I wrote a lot of English in that post and many people misunderstood it. So I issued a clarification. I’m not retiring; I am taking the necessary break to better myself.

Massey hinted at exciting ventures ahead, including directing and producing films. He also stressed on prioritizing his personal life and health, “I have a film next year that I’m focusing on as an actor. Also, I want to direct and produce, but more about that. This is not the right time to talk. Right now, I want to see my son grow, write more and take care of my health more than the 4-5 hours. Haven’t slept and I need to fix that.”
