Filmmaker Kiran Rao, who dated and then married Aamir Khan, recently recalled the early days of their relationship. Kiran also clarified that their romance did not start during this period rentAs rumored. Instead, they fell in love during the shoot Swades Started.
So what was her biggest challenge while dating a superstar?
He said cheerfully, “I didn’t have that kind of clothes on many occasions. That was the main point in life. I had to buy a good wardrobe quickly.”
She also shared that even though she was interested in fashion, at that time she did not have that much money to pursue her interest, and she mostly shopped at street markets or bought affordable brands.
Apart from her sartorial issues, did she face any other challenges with Aamir?
“There was no problem of any kind,” he said.
He further added, “He’s not a very filmy person. So we were like two people who had similar interests and had a lot to talk about.”
Elaborating on that, he also revealed, “The truth is that he is a star, I had worked on Lagaan and seen how he works, he is not hungry at all on the sets, if the need arises So he’ll hold the cutter or reflector. He’s one of the crew members.”
“And that made me not think about it that much because I knew him. I knew what he was like. So I didn’t have to carry all the burden of stardom. He knew I was that kind of person so it was on him.” Depending on how he feels, I think he didn’t expect me to fit into any mold,” she said, explaining how easy it was for her to fall in love with the superstar.
Coming to the fun facts about their relationship, Kiran revealed how they kept in touch during those days.
“We had different ways of communicating pre-mobile and pre-internet. Like the internet wasn’t everywhere. Sometimes we had to stand on a hill to figure out the network and everything else. We were shooting in Y That’s actually the beginning of our romance in 2004, when I was shooting for Swades,” recalled Kiran.
Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan got married in 2005 after a brief romance and welcomed their son Azad via surrogacy in 2011. The couple divorced in 2021, and they not only continue to share a great professional equation, but they also co-parent their son.
