Mumbai: Filmmaker Mansoor Khan says he wanted his cousin Aamir Khan to play the role of Chandrachur Singh in his 2000 film ‘Josh’, but the actor thought he was considered for the part that was painted by Shah Rukh Khan.
Aamir played the lead role in most of Mansoor’s films, including a prominent person ‘Qayamat Se -Kayamat Tak’, ‘Jo Jeeita Wohi Sikander’, and /’Akile Hum Akile Tum’, and when the director offered him ‘Josh’, he thought he was considered to be the lead role.
‘Josh’ revolved around two road gangs in Goa, in which Shah Rukh used to play Max, who was the head of the Eagle gang. Things become complicated
Mansoor said that he always saw ‘Josh’ as the story of two warning gangs.
“I wrote the script, and Shah Rukh was always going to play Max in my mind … in my mind, Aamir was the younger brother (of the character of Sharad), so there was a romantic angle (there was between Aamir and Aishwarya). I told it to Aamir, but I didn’t say who he is, and he was more immediately.
“The next day he (Aamir) came to the office of my father (Nasir Hussain), he had a glove and he was already in the character. I thought, ‘Oh S ***, he is thinking that he is playing maximum, but I will not tell him, let’s see what happens next’,” The filmmaker told PTI.
Mansoor again met Shah Rukh to estimate his interest and then broke the news to Aamir.
“I came back and said to Aamir,” Sorry, I am giving Shahrukh the role of Max. “
Mansoor said that she initially approached Kajol to play the role of Shirley, who is also the heroine of the film. Aishwarya finally played the role.
“(I) shared the whole thing, listened to the whole thing and he started going out. I asked him ‘Hey Kajol, are you doing the film?’ He said, ‘I want to play Max’. Everyone wanted to play Max because the character was so charismatic, “the filmmaker remembered.
‘Josh’ turned out to be Mansoor’s last directing venture before going to Konur, a hill station in Tamil Nadu for a quiet life.
“I was never interested in making films. I focused that once I make a good film and this success, I am doing it. So, my plan was always to do some films and then to leave because I am not a city person. It was not a big surprise for anyone in my family (when I stopped directing films).” The director is ready to step back of the camera once again to adapt to his recently published book, “A: The Story of the Ultimate Myth”.
“I have written the screenplay and a second draft, about which I am confident, but not Aamir, but he is fond of this book and is crazy to do this film.
“He will produce it. I have neither a production (company), nor I have money or knowledge. He will work in it (also). There are two central characters, a boy and a girl, so he will be a boy, and the girl who we will decide,” Mansor said.
