Did you know that Hollywood actor Michael Caine fell in love with his wife Shakira, who is from India, after seeing her in a television commercial? In fact, in a recent interview, the actor had shared that he was ready to go to Brazil and find Shakira to tell her about his feelings. Michael has been married to former actor and model Shakira for the past five decades. They have spoken about their relationship many times. The Jonathan Ross ShowHe looked back to see how he found her.
Timeless love story
Michael met Shakira in the 1970s when he saw her in a Maxwell House coffee commercial. He fell in love with her instantly and decided to travel to Brazil to meet her.
“I saw this woman in a commercial on television and I fell in love with her immediately. And it was a coffee commercial in Brazil. I just looked at her and thought, this is the woman for me,” he said with great admiration.
The Dunkirk actor was eager to meet her, and was prepared to fly to Brazil. He thought she was from Brazil, however, he was delighted to learn that she was actually from London.
He went to his friends to ask for help, as he shared, “And I told my friend, I said, we’re going to Brazil in the morning. We’re going to find her… And I went to my friend at the disco, Johnny Golden in Tramp. We were sitting there and a guy came up saying where are you three, no girls? What’s going on? No.”
Recalling the incident, the actor said, “I said I saw a beautiful girl on television. I said, “And I’m going to Brazil in the morning to find her”.
It was a Maxwell House coffee ad. When he told his friends that he thought she was from Brazil, Michael got the good news that “she’s not Brazilian. She’s Indian”, and that she lives in London. The actor pursued her, and the rest is history.

They got married in 1973 and their daughter was also born the same year. They have been in a strong relationship with each other since then and are now proud grandparents. Over the years, Michael and Shakira have also supported each other professionally. Shakira has accompanied the star to many of his premieres. Before Shakira, The Dark Knight actor was married to actress Patricia Haynes from 1954 to 1958, with whom he has another daughter.
