When Coldplay frontman Chris Martin made a surprise appearance in India with Vishal Dadlani and Raghu Dixit

As the excitement builds up for British band Coldplay’s performance in Mumbai in January next year, we can’t help but remember a magical night in 2015. It was the night that brought Delhi to life when Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin surprised everyone with an impromptu performance at the Summer House Cafe in Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi.

Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin surprised the band’s fans with a surprise show in Delhi in 2015.

This unexpected performance was a pleasant surprise, even for Indian singer and composer Vishal Dadlani, who had no idea about the surprise. In an interview with HT City at the time, Vishal recalled that night: “We were all having dinner with Raghu and AIB, after which Chris just said, ‘Let’s play somewhere.’ So off we went.”

Vishal said, “I asked him to sing ‘Fix You’, which is one of my all-time favourite songs, and he sang it! He sang, the crowd sang, and I sang backing vocals. Chris borrowed Raghu’s guitar and played an acoustic set. He sang Fix you, HeavenAnd viva la vida,

As soon as the news broke on social media, Chris began trending across the country. He wasn’t alone; he was joined by musicians Raghu Dixit, Vishal, actress Freida Pinto and members of comedy group AIB, Tanmay Bhat, Gursimran Khamba and Rohan Joshi.

The 37-year-old British singer, whose band has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide, delighted attendees with his performance.

Raghu also shared his excitement about the night. “We went to the bar just to relax and suddenly Chris started singing. So the DJ turned off, and we added our guitars and everything started. This is my best night this year,” he recalled. Adding to the excitement, Rohan, Gursimran and Tanmay shared selfies with Chris, making many fans go red with envy.

Coldplay has officially announced two shows in Mumbai for January 2025. The UK-based band will return to India after nine years with its Music of the Sphere World Tour. The four-member band had previously performed in India in 2016 as part of the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai.

The band’s official Instagram page confirmed the Mumbai dates through a post.

Formed in 1997, the band consists of vocalist and pianist Criss, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and percussionist Will Champion.
