When Manish Malhotra dressed up Zakir Hussain for Grammys 2024: “Will cherish…”

Four-time Grammy winner Zakir Hussain died on Monday in a hospital in San Francisco, USA. He was 73 years old. According to a statement from his family, Legend died due to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. An iconic name in India and abroad, tributes are being paid to the great artiste from all quarters. Fashion designer Manish Malhotra also shared a series of pictures of Zakir Hussain on Instagram. In his heartfelt note, Manish recalled the honor of dressing the tabla player for the 2024 Grammys. He wrote, “RIP Ustad Zakir Hussain. I had the privilege and honor of dressing Ustad Zakir Hussain for the Grammys 2024 and meeting him at our Manish Malhotra headquarters in Mumbai. I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life. Love and respect.”

Kareena Kapoor also shared an old picture of Zakir Hussain on her Instagram stories. The picture included Kareena, her father, actor Randhir Kapoor and the famous tabla player. In the picture, Kareena’s father and Zakir Hussain are seen shaking hands, while Kareena is standing near him and looking down. Kareena wrote in her caption, “Maestro forever.”

Ranveer Singh also paid tribute to Zakir Hussain by sharing a black-and-white image of the maestro. In the photo, Zakir Hussain is seen smiling and playing the tabla.

Zakir Hussain’s family said in a statement, “He (Zakir Hussain) leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the world, whose impact will last for generations to come.”

In a career spanning six decades, Zakir Hussain collaborated with many renowned international and Indian artists. His groundbreaking work with Western musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Charles Lloyd, Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Mickey Hart and George Harrison played an important role in bringing Indian classical music to an international audience.

Zakir Hussain received Padma Shri in 1988, Padma Bhushan in 2002 and Padma Vibhushan in 2023.
