Peripheral – Musical romantic drama, who marked Vidya Balan’s Grand Bollywood debut – has completed 20 years of its release. To mark the milestone, producer Vidya Vinod Chopra hosted a special screening of the film in Mumbai. The evening became indifferent because Chopra shared the story how the student was cast in the lead role, despite many top heroines were ready for the part.
The screening was a star-staded affair, with Rekha, Dia Mirza, Shreya Ghoshal, Rajkumar Hirani, Vidya Balan in the presence of himself and others. A heartbreaking moment when Vidya touched Rekha’s feet, he also won the heart online.
How Vidya Balan got a role Peripheral
Recalling the casting journey, Vidya Vinod Chopra revealed how Vidya played a role after going through several rounds of auditions.
He said at the screening, “A lot of top heroines wanted to do PeripheralBut Pradeep Sarkar said that Chamber is a new girl. So I said, ‘Test this chamber girl.’ I usually do not meet actors during the screen test. Vidya went through a lot of tests. Then I told Pradeep, “Let’s do a final test.” She was so tired of this process that she had really muted Galis before her final audition, I could see her saying, ‘She thinks who she is?’ By then, he had conducted 20–25 tests. But then he gave such a magnificent final test, it was incredible. I told Pradeep, call him immediately. ,
Emotional reaction of learning to casting calls
Sharing her side of the story, Vidya revealed that she was at an Enrich Iglesius concert when she received a life -changing call. He said,
“So Dada (Pradeep Sarkar) called him, and I told him,” Dada, I am in the middle of the concert, I will call you back. ” But he said, “No, Mr. Chopra wants to talk to you.” So I said, ‘Yes, I will call you after the concert.’ Then Mr. Chopra said, ‘Your life is Badle Wali, outside (your life is going to change, come out).’ I was so, ‘What are you going to tell me that I didn’t get a part again?’ I did not think for otherwise for a second, because I had passed through so many tests. So I came out and he told me on the phone, ‘You are my ablation.’ And I started crying there.
