New Delhi: Professional bodybuilder and actor from Punjab, Varinder Singh Ghuman reportedly suffered a heart attack on Thursday and breathed his last, leaving his family and fans in shock. He was 42 years old.
Who was Varinder Singh Ghuman?
Varinder Singh Ghuman Ghuman won the title of Mister India in 2009 and was awarded second place in Mister Asia. He was from Gurdaspur, Punjab and was also called ‘the world’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilder’.

After winning Mister Asia, he was appointed by Hollywood bigwig Arnold Schwarzenegger as his brand ambassador to promote his health products in Asia. He was the first Indian bodybuilder to earn an IFBB Pro Card.
How did Varinder Singh Ghumman die?
According to India Today report, he was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Amritsar for a minor operation on a bicep injury. However, he suffered cardiac arrest during the procedure and could not be saved.
Film career of Varinder Singh Ghuman
Ghuman played the lead role in the 2012 Punjabi film ‘Kabaddi Once Again’, after which he made his Bollywood debut in the 2014 film ‘Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans’. In 2019, Ghuman appeared in the Hindi film Marjaavaan.
He was last seen in Salman Khan’s Tiger 3.

Former Indian hockey team captain Pargat Singh expressed his condolences through his Ax handle: “Deeply saddened to know that renowned body-builder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman ji passed away due to a heart attack. He was a dedicated vegetarian, he built his body with discipline and decency. May Waheguru rest in peace to his departed soul and give his family the strength to bear this loss.” He has written.
