Tickets: ₹3,000 (seating), ₹1,500 (standing) via BookMyShow.com
Guitarist Marta Pereira da Costa’s concert at the Windmills will see jazz meet traditional Portuguese musical styles. Performing on Friday and Saturday, the artist will be joined by João José Pita on seven-string guitar and André Sousa Machado on percussion and drums.
The program description from Windmills describes da Costa as a pioneer in the world of fado, a mournful, melancholy style of Portuguese music that originated in the early 19th century. Da Costa is recognized worldwide as a key artist who redefined the role of the Portuguese guitar in fado music.
The description further states, “In a field traditionally dominated by men, she has carved a unique niche for herself, bringing the instrument into the spotlight. Her performances take audiences on a fascinating journey through the rich tapestry of fado and traditional Portuguese music. With a style that is both intense and dynamic, yet guided by profound sensitivity and delicacy, Marta’s music is infused with a quintessentially Portuguese essence. The strings of her guitar traverse new soundscapes, merging jazz, world music, and Portuguese music while preserving fado’s original authenticity.”
