The first International World Music Day was celebrated in 1982, on the eve of the summer solstice. It took place during the Fête de la Musique in Paris. Radio producer and composer Maurice Fleuret and French politician and music journalist Jack Lang came up with the concept of World Music Day. Both held important positions in the French Ministry of Culture. They called on everyone to celebrate the summer solstice by playing music and stepping out of their homes. Today, World Music Day is celebrated all over the world.
