‘XO, Kitty’ Season 2 Review: Romance and chaos reign supreme in Anna Cathcart’s fun teen drama

There’s a charming charm to Anna Cathcart’s Kitty Song-Covey and her brand of chaos. xo kitty Which you can’t get enough of. Returning for its second season after two years, xo kitty is chaotic and messy with its myriad love triangles, romantic entanglements, and more, but it’s very much in line with the spirit of writer Jenny Han’s cozy world of tropey teen drama.

In Season 2, Kitty has returned to the Korean Independent School of Seoul (‘KISS’ – all episode names play on this very convenient school name), seeking to become an anarchy-free queen after her disastrous and complicated sophomore year. Is determined to. Although she still remains friends with her ex-boyfriend Dae (Choi Min-young), she is horrified to learn that her roommate this year is Yuri (Jia Kim), the friend she has a huge crush on. Is. To add to the mix, there is still a lot of tension between her and school playboy Minho (Sang Hyeon-lee), whom she gently rejects after confessing her feelings to him. There are also new students – Praveena (Sasha Bhasin) who is a potential romantic interest for Kitty, her new roommate Stella Cho (Audrey Huynh), and Yuri’s girlfriend Juliana (Regan Aliyah). There is a lot of excitement in KISS this time too. Whereas we rarely see students picking up books.

Kitty’s plans for a stress-free semester soon go awry and she finds herself caught up in a potential new romance, a sabotaging girl, and the mystery of why her mother’s family was at odds. Kitty also faces a new sexual awakening, after coming out as bisexual last semester. Like the first season, Kitty is determined to learn more about her mother, and this makes for the more emotional, layered parts of the show.

Most of the entertaining drama, including a ridiculously planned heist to steal something from the school archives and an impromptu trip in search of a family member, is all courtesy of Kitty and Minho, whose chemistry shines on screen. Kitty-centric chaos is something we’re all familiar with from the show’s first season, and there’s a repeat of it here. However, some parts, especially the conflict involving Juliana and Yuri, seem exaggerated.

plot line:After a disastrous first stint in KISS, Kitty Covay is back again, determined not to be the queen of reigning chaos

However, despite the setting of South Korea, there are very few things we see in Seoul; All the drama takes place largely on the KISS campus, except for a ski cabin trip by Kitty and the gang. There’s certainly a lot to offer in the K-drama realm, but it’s surprising the writers don’t make better use of the setting. Jenny Hahn’s Two Have a Lot of Similarities All the boys I ever loved, Including a view of a hot tub in a ski cabin. It also includes a cameo of the best kind, with Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) appearing to infuse proceedings with his trademark warmth and charm (set to Lauv’s ‘I Like Me Better’).

Given the show’s success with its explosive K-pop music in the first season, thankfully the second season doesn’t disappoint in the music department. Keep an eye out for K-pop idol appearances in the latter half of the show.

xo kitty The tropey goodness is kept intact by its extremely likable cast. As Kitty, Anna makes the character her own. If Song Heon-lee emerged as a fan favorite Minho in the first season, he is back in good form and thankfully gets a lot more screen time. Anthony Keown as Q, who is the voice of reason for many characters on the show, makes for a sweet and solid friend, thankfully he also has a better romance track this season.

As Kitty navigates high school, her many crushes, her matchmaking skills, and mostly the chaos and drama started by her are a constant churn as she runs from questions about her family to her growing pile of crushes. Lives. It helps here that all the characters are lovable and funny; What’s not to like…or exaggerate? Season 3, I’m looking at you for that long-awaited Yuri-Kitty-Minho love triangle.
