‘Y’, a curated physical theatre, explores the human experience

The narrative is constructed by a group of actors who have prepared their expressions through months of rehearsals. a ready-made physical theater work, Y It traces the circle of life through the memories that the human body refuses to shed. Through raw, provocative movements, Actos approaches complex themes that define the human condition. Growth, breakdown, healing and torment are part of the drama that raises questions about the self.

The play’s director Remith Ramesh says that his team of actors explore even abstract emotions with ease. Remith says, “This is not a narrative-based play. It’s an open-ended play. We’re not drawing conclusions here.” As well as touching on the idea of ​​the self, it also discusses the concept of home – whether it’s a sanctuary of peace or a cauldron of suffocation and trauma, says Remith.

The work on the play started in July this year. Created entirely by the actors themselves, the process of making it was as challenging as it was fun, says Remith. Y Made up of the group’s personal stories. Stories and experiences that are not unique to them – of pain, struggle, legacy and resilience. “It’s not easy to describe the process of creating theatre,” says actor Gargi Anantan, who is in the cast. “After several rehearsals, we reached a common ground,” she adds.

Five actors from different parts of India have contributed equally to this composition. The team developed ambiguity as a language of communication. “We didn’t want to limit the audience’s imagination in any way, and language can be limiting when you think about it,” says Remith.

Topic, Yes, Also open to interpretation. It may be a bifurcated path suggesting different possibilities in life, a meeting point, or a question. A Koodiyattam artiste and a theater practitioner, Remith incorporates contemporary techniques and pedagogy in his methodology.

Produced by AL Space Studios, the music for the drama is composed by Suraj Santosh. Apart from Garggi, the cast includes Jijivisha Akshay, Kewal Karthik, Mallika M and Nikita Thube. Sandeep Yadav is the production manager and light designer.
