Kangana Ranaut has come out in support of Bihar MLA and singer Maithili Thakur after she faced criticism on social media over her luxury Rolls Royce Cullinan.

Maithili recently arrived at Mumbai’s Lalbaghcha Raja Pandal in a blue luxury SUV, prompting questions online as to how she could buy such an expensive car so soon after entering politics.

Kangana, who is also a BJP MP, shared her thoughts on the criticism through her Instagram Stories. He questioned why politicians are expected to give up a comfortable lifestyle as they join public service.

“Some people get rotten whenever they see politicians living a good life. Now our young MLA is being trolled for using a luxury car. We may be inclined towards social service but we also have our own career, life and fame. We selflessly work for people’s welfare but some people are so sad to see us living well, why not? Why don’t we expect money from poor people but we also expect to remain poor. Don’t you? And Bejan is so irrational,” Kangana Ranaut wrote.

The buzz surrounding Maithili’s car comes less than a year after she made her political debut. The folk singer contested the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections as a BJP candidate and defeated RJD leader Binod Mishra by a comfortable margin. Her victory also made her the youngest MLA of Bihar.

Before joining politics, Maithili had already made a name for herself through music. He was trained in Indian classical music and folk traditions and performed in Maithili and Bhojpuri in addition to devotional and film songs.

Maithili first came to wider public attention in 2017 when she appeared on the singing reality show Rising Star India. She later developed a strong digital following, particularly through YouTube, where she regularly shares classical and folk performances.
