Theater Marina presented a collection of seven standalone short plays at the KGS Arena, an initiative of Krishna Gana Sabha to showcase performances beyond the scope of classical art. It was organized at the meeting place.

Anthology theater demands flawless curation. Even when plays lack a common thematic thread, a weak narrative can act like a card removed from a carefully balanced pyramid, causing the entire edifice to collapse. Fortunately, R. Giridharan’s direction and direction ensured an evening of theater based on humour.

In Chithappa Vijayam A letter starts a stir in the protagonist’s house, as an uncle he has never seen is coming to stay for a short time. But, does uncle come? This is the turning point in the play.

Changing gear, second play, coffee with kadavul, It was a more serious matter. Raghunathan, a 59-year-old bachelor, had long ago resolved that he would marry only after completing his chartered accountancy – a milestone that still eludes him. Reflecting the all-too-familiar concern about the extremely low success rate of the CA exam, the premise resonated with the audience. The story depicts the cruel irony of fate; Which often fulfills our lifelong desires only when it is too late for us to enjoy them.

avan aval adhu There were about two theater lovers – one was eager to be on stage, while the other was eager to watch a play. To satisfy their obsession, they make up excuses at their workplace, each afraid that the secret will be revealed to the manager.

Rail Sneham Revolves around Govindasamy, who pours his heart out in a letter to his neighbor Ramasamy, and lists all his grievances against his family; Yet he insists he wants to be a good neighbor. The punchline worsens when he reveals that he is sending the letter from Mumbai after hearing that the kitchen in Mumbai caught fire. But the letter arrives too late, leaving the audience looking at the soot-covered and burnt bodies of Ramasamy and his wife.

ulaga vaazhakkam,The best play of the collection (written by J. Raghunathan), was a masterpiece in human psychology. It analyzed the allure of wealth and how sibling jealousy dictates life choices and also showed how a shrewd father (Kamaraj Mani) manipulates his daughter into accepting a groom of his choice. The playwright balanced emotional depth with a cheeky tone in no time, showcasing his writing skills.

Malayankulathu Ninaivugal It was about two characters reminiscing about life in their native village. Just as one was wondering what the play had to offer beyond a series of memories, the author delivered his surprise ending.

Marakkama Nenjam It was about the reunion of three old friends. But, there is no chance to delve deeper into the past, as three elderly women are suffering from memory loss. Conversations devolve into sugar-free coffee, with women drinking endless cups without even realizing it. Actors Anita Balachander, Vidyalakshmi and Latha made these characters completely charming. Playwrights often play out the same theme to the end and still feel they have not said enough. These short plays serve as a reminder that stagecraft can be brief but remarkably effective.
