Sameera Reddy has reacted to Katrina Kaif’s post-birth weight trolling. The The tiger is alive The star was recently targeted online over her appearance and alleged weight gain after attending the Ganpati celebrations in Mumbai.
In a conversation with NDTV’s Sneha Mordani, actors Charu Shankar and Sameera Reddy share their thoughts on postpartum recovery and what women face over their bodies after childbirth.
They were asked about the pressure on women to lose weight after giving birth and the tendency to focus on their appearance rather than health concerns.
The animal The actor replied, “Yes, absolutely. Thanks for asking that question. It’s a very important conversation, because when I work with women, and I’ve been working in this field for about 10 years, prenatal and postnatal, that’s my specialty, I have patients come to me. I remember this one girl; she came to me, she brought a photo of herself from a wedding.”
Charu added, “And he said, ‘You know what? It’s me, right? It’s not me. It’s me.’ I mean, can you imagine the depth of this separation from yourself? Her identity is completely tied to what she remembers herself to be, whereas who she is now, the body she lives in now, the relationships she lives in now, the responsibilities she lives in now, it’s all changed.”
She added, “And so I think when we look at postpartum reconstruction, we have to look at it as reconstruction. A lot of women come to us, and they’re looking at fitness as a punishment. They’re like, ‘No, I want to get rid of this postpartum, what’s this, what’s this fat here?’ The way we talk to our body is very cruel. I mean, let’s put the trolls aside for a second. Let’s look at the conversations we have with our bodies. How many of us look in the mirror every day, and we’re like, ‘Wow, you look great today. My God, I love you. Thank you for doing all that you do. Thank you for making this baby. You made a whole child and gave me a baby in your arms. Wow, body, I love you.’ Has any woman ever said that? When we look at postpartum fitness, no, really!”
She added, “So when we look at women’s health, we have to start from here. We have to start from a point of, ‘Can we have healthy relationships with ourselves?’ Then comes the fitness routine. Then comes nutrition, because it’s all about rebuilding a sense of self.”

Echoing Charu’s point, Sameera spoke about the pressure on women to return to their pre-pregnancy body. She said, “The pre-pregnancy body. You know how many people talk about that? ‘When am I going to get my pre-pregnancy body?’ I’m like, ‘Honey, please reinvent yourself and move on to someone new. Stop looking back at what you were, okay?'”
Charu said, “Oh my God, Sameera, thank you for saying that. Because there’s this bounce-back culture. What is it? I mean, like, how, you know, nobody’s invented a time machine. Nobody can take you back and make you who you were. But what can you do…”
Sameera then mentions the appreciation of women for losing weight after childbirth and gives the example of Bipasha Basu.
She said, “I can’t believe people are championing it! So, for example, they’re like, ‘Wow, you’ve lost so much weight; how did you do it?’ Or, ‘Wow,’ you know, ‘Bipasha Basu just did this comeback cover, which I think she looks amazing in.’ But again, she was still amazing when she gave birth. He was also wonderful when he took that time for himself.”
Sameera then defended Katrina against comments about her looks, saying, “And now Katrina is back, and the look she wants, she’s amazing right now. She’s an entrepreneur; she’s built a wonderful empire. I have a lot of respect for that woman. What we’re sitting here and being so trivial with a photo, it’s so right.”
“I’m telling half the guys and girls out there, look what this woman has made. And even if she didn’t do it, it’s her will,” Samira said.
