Abhijit Sawant and Arijit Singh have opened up about their different career paths since making their reality TV debut in 2005. While Abhijit became a familiar face across the country after winning. Indian Idol Season 1, Arijit spent years working behind the scenes before becoming one of the most recognized voices in Indian music.
Speaking to FilmGyan, Abhijith recalled that he was much more popular than Arijit in the years immediately after the reality show. The singer said that both came into the limelight around the same time, but their journeys were very different after that.
“After 2005, Arijit stayed away from the limelight. For at least 10 years, call it a blessing in disguise, he went to the music studio and worked with all the major musicians, not as a singer but as a producer, as a programmer,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abhijit became a household name after winning Indian Idol In 2005. He took home Rs 1 crore as the winner and also bagged an album deal with Sony. Arijit, on the other hand, returned to work in music studios and spent years building his experience away from the spotlight.
“He went back to basics and started his journey again and no one knew him then,” Abhijit added.
Looking back, the singer said the difference in their fame also meant the pressure on them wasn’t the same. According to him, while he was already being recognized by the audience, Arijit was quietly working with musicians and composers and waiting for his chance as a singer.
“If you compare him and me at that time, I was very famous, but he wasn’t. So the pressure I faced was very different from the pressure he was facing. He worked a lot in those 10 years, and worked with musicians a lot and then he got his first big song,” he said.
For Abhijit, with the success of Arijit Aashiqui 2 There was also a matter of timing and luck. Although Arijit had already sung Take care of your heart in the Murder 2it was you are which turned him into a major playback star.

Abhijeet also said that audiences often judge people based on how successful they look, while every artist’s journey is different.
“It’s a shortcoming of the audience that we keep praising the successful, but those we don’t know much about, we keep finding flaws in them. That’s not all. Everyone has their own journey. Everyone is trying their best to work, to live their lives. Them,” he concluded.
