Actress Fatima Sana Sheikh, who is most famous for her acting the riot And most recently seen pride – roar, During her ‘Fatima No Filter’ session at NDTV Yuva 2026 spoke about social media censorship, online trolling and the need for greater accountability.

Speaking about whether or not there should be censorship on social media, Fatima said some sort of regulation is necessary, especially when it comes to faceless accounts and people who post offensive comments without taking responsibility for their words.

“Exactly. But how are we going to do that? Because there are so many faceless accounts or bots, or people who don’t take accountability. They’ll question you about your appearance, about 50 different things. And there are some of these people who have “live and let live” in their bios. But every time they talk to someone or talk about someone else they speak in such an obnoxious man.”

Fatima stressed that people need to be held accountable for what they post online. She also pointed out that online abuse is not limited to actors or other public figures, with many young women receiving inappropriate and disturbing messages on social media.

“I really feel it’s time for accountability. If someone has made nasty comments, whoever made them should be thrown in jail. Unless there’s fear of the law, that person won’t change. And it’s not just public figures; there are a lot of people, especially girls with open accounts, who get a lot of messages from guys saying really horrible things.”

The actor also spoke about the impact of constant trolling on the youth. While she said she has learned to deal with online negativity, she expressed concern about people who may struggle to cope with constant online bullying.

“But we’ve learned how to deal with it. The younger generation, though—how many of them make the wrong move because they’re trolled to such an extent that they’re bullied so deeply that it scars their soul and they can’t take it anymore.”

Asked if she had ever come across a comment that affected her so deeply that she felt it had crossed a line, Fatima said she preferred to remove such comments from her social media pages.

“On my page, I just delete it. If someone comments on my page, I delete it. It’s my page; I don’t want to see it. Otherwise, you have to learn to live with it.”

Fatima was also asked about paid trolling, where individuals or groups allegedly pay others to post negative content about someone. She said she believes taking money to target another person is also a moral issue.

“It’s wrong, isn’t it? It shouldn’t be. Nothing should be negative. If you’re paying me to talk about someone, I’m guilty of taking that money too. Someone’s moral compass has to stop them. If everyone is corrupt, how is work going to work?”
