Mithun Chakraborty may be Bollywood’s original disco dancer, but his star power apparently created quite a scene on the sets. Om Shanti Om. The veteran actor recently appeared on Farah Khan’s vlog along with his sons, Memo and Namashi Chakraborty, where the filmmaker recalled an interesting incident from the making of the film’s iconic song. Farah Khan revealed that while more than 30 leading actors had assembled for the song, Mithun Chakraborty’s arrival created a frenzy on the set. And that was even before his tenure Dance India Dance Introduced him to a new generation of fans.

Talking about the star-studded song, Farah said, “A lot of artists came, 32 artists came. But when Dada came, I can’t tell you there was a stampede and it was before Dance India Dance. We showed in the song that a woman fainted, which had actually happened before! So we put it in the song. Even Lightman, there was a lot of jumping to meet Shah Rukh… and I was like, ‘What?’ Done!’

The filmmaker also revealed the story behind one of the funniest moments in the song featuring Mithun and Shah Rukh Khan. While shooting her part, Farah asked SRK to follow the steps shown by Mithun. However, things didn’t quite go as planned.

“He couldn’t follow him, so Mithun da started giving him a tapli (smack on the head) and we put it in the shot,” he said.

Mithun also looked back on the experience with fondness, recalling the number of stars gathered on the set and the excitement of being a part of such a memorable song.

Released in 2007, Diwangi Diwangi With Shah Rukh Khan bringing together an extraordinary lineup of Bollywood stars. The song featured Dharmendra, Tabu, Karisma Kapoor, Jitendra, Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Rekha and Juhi Chawla among others. A total of 32 stars appeared in the song.
