YRF casting director Shanu Sharma has shared a cryptic post on Instagram, days after actress Anjali Anand spoke about the conversation she had with him.
Anjali was told that they could do “something” while she lost weight. “I hope the next big trend is talent,” Shanu’s post read. He did not mention Anjali or her comments in the post.
Many celebrities including Bhumi Pednekar, Shalini Pasi, Ankita Lokhande showed support in the comments section. “Talent has always been waiting outside the offices,” commented Shardul Pandit.
When Anjali Anand recalled Shanu Sharma’s “lose weight” comment
Anjali spoke to filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan on her YouTube channel about the difficult times in her life.
She said, “I was at the lowest point of my life in 2020. I was thinking of leaving India and giving up acting altogether. I wasn’t getting any acting offers. The pandemic happened, all my savings were gone, and I was living alone on rent for six months.”
At that time, Anjali was in Goa with her friends when she received Shano’s message. It simply said, “Baby, call me.”
“Whenever I would meet her for roles, she would tell me, ‘When you lose weight, we’ll do something,'” she recalled.
However, this time Shanu contacted Karan Johar about a possible role in the film.
“Karan saw your photo, and he liked it. He’s looking for an actor for this part, and if you crack this audition, he’ll take you,” Anjali recalled telling Shanu.

Finally, Anjali got her chance, who went on to play the role of Golu in Karan Johar’s film Rocky and Rani Ki Love Story, In which Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh worked.
“My mother told me, ‘Badi Ai, Karan is going to meet Johar.’ I said, ‘Mom, I’m actually going to see him.’
Anjali said her mother’s reaction came out of concern. She knew her daughter didn’t have many industry connections or a godfather who could help her navigate the film industry.
Anjali made her acting debut with the 2017 OTT series untagged. Later she appeared in television shows Sisterly love And Golu went to play The love story of Rocky and Rani. His last Bollywood film was Dhamal 4.
