Shankar Mahadevan has an interesting explanation for what happens to even the greatest playback singers – forgetting the lyrics of their own hit songs. The musician recently opened up about it by joining Ahsan Noorani, Loy Mendonsa, Shan and Mayang Chang for a special. spotify Marks 25 years of video The heart desires.
The conversation took a funny turn when Shaan wondered why he sometimes struggles to remember the words to songs he himself has sung. According to Shankar, there is actually a simple reason behind it. Once a song is recorded, released and becomes a hit, singers naturally move on to their next project.
Explaining why, Shankar said, “I’ll tell you why. Because you’ve already sung that song. The song has become popular. It’s become a superhit. And you’ve already moved on. So it’s not a priority anymore. It’s already been done. If it’s a new song, a new tune, a new song, you’ll like it 10%, and I’ll focus on it 10%.” Make one mistake and there will be no mistakes.”
Shaun then added a funny example from one of his recording sessions. He recalled working with lyricist Javed Akhtar and said that he once composed his own lyrics for songs that he had originally sung.
“I have a very funny story on that. During one session, I started making my own songs. And then I went to Javed Akhtar Sahib, very funny, and I asked him, ‘Is everything okay?’, he said, ‘You’re writing it yourself’. So I didn’t understand what he meant. He said, ‘No, no, these are all your songs’, I said, ‘These were my songs.’ Said, ‘You’ve made your lines.’
The exchange offered a light glimpse into how singers can sometimes memorize a tune or an entire song but are completely blank on the actual words.
The conversation came as The heart desires 25 years marked. Directed by Farhan Akhtar, the film was closely associated with the idea of friendship, city life, romance and going on a trip with friends.
Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna and Preity Zinta played important roles in the film.
