Almost a week after the Income Tax Department raided several locations linked to Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh, her father-in-law and filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani and Panorama Studios in Mumbai, Of the love of The actor shared a public statement, claiming that the search was not related to him in any capacity.
“So let’s set the record straight for once. The search was not about me. Let’s just say that I am from an armed forces background and had no godfather in the industry. I have come through hard work and have been paying my dues since the age of 20 as a responsible law abiding citizen.
Rakul wrote, “I am not involved in any illegal foreign remittance in my personal capacity or on behalf of any production house. I would also like to state here that I do not hold any benami property on behalf of anyone anywhere in the country or abroad. No one has ever gifted me any property nor do I accept such expensive gifts as a matter of principle.”
Slamming the media reports for lacking ‘truth’, she added, “I request all those who have published these false, malicious and speculative reports to withdraw them and clarify the facts.
“I understand that everyone running a media business has their own commercial pressures. But that can’t come at the expense of facts. And certainly not at the expense of one’s reputation and livelihood.”
The Mumbai Income Tax Department launched raids at 12 locations on September 28 for suspected fund irregularities. Investigators believe the funds are allegedly being sent abroad under the guise of financing film projects.
Several teams of the Mumbai Income Tax Department are currently verifying documents, financial records and details of alleged foreign transactions.
