Dia Mirza has completed 25 years doing some amazing performances in Bollywood. She made her big screen debut as Reena Malhotra in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s 2001 romantic film. Love is the land of my heart. But not many people know that this was not the first film he signed as an actor.

The actor has revealed that the film was actually the third project he had taken up Om Jai Jagadish And insanity.

Speaking on screen spotlight, Dia recalled that she was first approached for Om Jai Jagdish directed by Anupam Kher.

“It was very interesting. So, Love is the land of my heart Wasn’t the first film I signed. it was Om Jai Jagadish” said Dia Mirza.

He recalled Anupam Kher, who made his directorial debut with the 2002 film, with its lead actor Anil Kapoor, was in Hyderabad for a shoot when he spotted Diya in his hotel lobby. She was there as part of her homecoming celebrations after winning the Miss India Asia Pacific pageant.

They approached him and offered him the role. However, Dia was not sure if she could start acting right after winning the beauty pageant. The filmmakers agreed to wait, as the film was to go on floors later. Convincing her parents was the next challenge.

“Mr. Kher very generously called my parents, came home, and convinced them to allow me to be a part of the film,” recalled Dia.

How did Dia Mirza perform in her first three films?

Attending workshops with veteran theater director Feroze Abbas Khan to prepare for Om Jai Jagdish, Diya got another offer from producer Vashu Bhagnani. This time it was Ashu Trikha’s 2001 action romance insanityStarring Arjun Rampal.

After a situation arose with another actor, he was approached by Bhagnani, who asked him to look for a replacement. eventually, insanity Diya became the first film for which the shooting started.

“He had a situation with another actor, so he wanted me to come in. So, insanity It was the first film I started shooting for. My first day on set was with Arjun Rampal,” he said.

Director Ashu Trikha also asked Kabir Sadanand, who played Rampal’s college friend in the film, to shadow Diya and help him familiarize himself with the workings of the film set.

The actor fondly recalls the experience, describing the people with whom he was generous and kind. He also praised Bhagnani for making sure the cast had everything they needed.

Recalling how quickly the offers came to her, Dia said she was surprised to find herself signed for three films before completing her first project.

“And I thought to myself, ‘What’s happening to me? I haven’t even finished a film, and I’m about to start a third.’ Without it officially being a three-film deal, that’s what it became,” he said.

Dia admits that the experience was overwhelming, as she was unfamiliar with the demands of filmmaking and the long shooting schedule. However, he credited Bhagnani for supporting his projects and giving the necessary support to newcomers.

“While Vashu ji was really a great producer in terms of supporting what he believed in, he also worked really hard. So, it was a bit overwhelming, but also extraordinary. I don’t think any newcomer could ask for more,” he added.

Dia Mirza wants to reunite with R Madhavan

Interestingly, Love is the land of my heart was released before insanity. Although neither film did well at the box office initially, the romantic drama gradually developed a cult following and remained popular among audiences.

But to everyone’s surprise, including Diya, despite the film’s enduring appeal, Diya and Madhavan haven’t reunited on screen since.

“I don’t know why. It’s really sad that no one has brought us together yet because it doesn’t have to happen. To live in your heart 2. It can be any movie as long as it is a love story. I’m sure enough people will be interested to see us as a duo,” he said.

Dia also spoke warmly about Madhavan and said how both of them have grown over the years.

“I would love to work with Maddy. It’s exciting to grow with the people we have. He was already such an accomplished artist. He’s become even more accomplished. I think my time and experience in storytelling has also helped me. It will be exciting to share screen space again,” she added.
