Vijay revealed how he had planned to propose to Rashmika during a trip to Italy but had to change his plans after failing to find the right ring.
Speaking about their relationship on Koffee With Karan Season 9, Vijay revealed that he wanted Rashmika to have her own proposal story, even though romantic gestures weren’t exactly her style. The actor finally got the right moment to pop the question on the first day of their wedding celebrations.

Vijay had hoped to propose to Rashmika during a trip to Italy in December, a few months before their February wedding. Although he had the location and the idea in mind, the plan didn’t work because he couldn’t find a ring that felt right.
The actor explained that he wanted Rashmika to have a special memory to look back on, regardless of her discomfort with lavish romantic gestures.
Recalling his original plan, Vijay said, “I didn’t want Rashmika to not have one. Before we got married in February, so when we were in Italy in December, I thought I didn’t want her to have a proposal story because I’m not that type. I wanted to do it in Italy but I couldn’t find the right ring.”

Vijay finally found the right moment during his wedding celebrations in Udaipur. He popped the question on the first day of their wedding celebrations in Udaipur after Sangeet. He asked his close friends to get together after the event before getting down on one knee and proposing to Rashmika.
Explaining why he chose that moment, Vijay said, “I proposed to her on the first day of our wedding in Udaipur which was a music night. After the music I asked all my friends to come and I wanted to be around my friends where I got down on one knee and proposed to her. I didn’t want to take that moment away from her.”
