Mumbai:
Actor Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday greeted fans gathered behind a protective bulletproof glass curtain outside his Juhu bungalow, Jalsa. The screen hit two weeks after actor Tiger Shroff was shot in Juhu, and nine days after an email threatened to attack Bachchan’s home.
Usually during his weekly appearances for fans, Bachchan uses a pedestal with wheels, apparently so that his fans can see him better. He is also wearing a loose jacket that fans theorize is hiding a bulletproof jacket. A protective mirror appeared on three sides of the pedestal at the November 1 fan greeting.
The Bachchans step out of the jalsa on Sunday evenings to wave to fans who have been gathering at the bungalow’s gate for decades.

On October 23, security agencies and the Mumbai police were put on high alert after an email sent to Mayor Ritu Tawde threatened to bomb her office, Bachchan’s home and singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert venue, an official said.
The email, also marked Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghari, threatened to target Jalsa between October 31 and November 27 and warned of a grenade attack on a school on October 31, police said. The email further claimed that the attack would take place during Dosanjh’s concert on November 27 at the Mahalakshmi Racecourse area.
Security and surveillance have been increased at all locations mentioned in the email, officials said, and an investigation has been launched to trace its origin and identify the sender.
It was not clear whether Bachchan’s bulletproofing move was part of the state’s criteria or his personal decision.
Tiger Shroff was shot on the evening of October 18 when he was returning from a football game in Juhu. Two men fired several rounds at his BMW as it drove past fans waiting at the gate of the compound. One of the attackers pointed a gun directly at Shroff, but the weapon jammed, leaving the actor unharmed. His driver and a passenger were injured.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack, citing Shroff’s closeness to actor Salman Khan, whom the gang was trying to target in the blackbuck poaching case.
According to sources, the accused visited the residences of Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan on the pretext of tourism to avoid suspicion, while their real target was Sharaf. Sources said that the purpose of this was to spread terror in Bollywood.
The shooters, Hrithik alias Roshan (22) from Bihar, Rehan (18) and Phool Singh (18) were arrested from Kota in Rajasthan. Two others, Radha and Babita, were arrested from the New Delhi railway station, while Kunal (21) and Sumit (19) were arrested from Sonepat in Haryana. A dozen arrests have been made so far.
