Sunil Lahiri, who played Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana (1987-88), shares his reactions to Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, which hits theaters worldwide today. Sunil Lahiri has not seen the film yet, but he is confident of the ability of Nitesh Tiwari and the entire team that they have made a ‘good’ film. In a video message on Instagram, Sunil Lahiri only complained about the film’s music that he heard in the trailer.
Talking about the music, Sunil said, “I think… Nitesh ji is a very good director, he has made good films before. Music plays a very important role, in a way it is the backbone. Out of all the music I have heard in this film, some of its songs have disappointed me a bit.”
He added that the music should have captured the local flavor of Ayodhya and Mithila which he found ‘missing’ in the songs. He defended himself by saying that he was not an authority on the music. But he shared his opinion as a listener.
Wishing the film a huge success, Sunil Lahiri said that the film needs to be a big hit as the livelihood of many people is connected with it.
For Unversed, the film’s music is composed by acclaimed composers Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. The two musical talents have collaborated for the first time to compose the music and background score for the film.
Not from Lahiri, the music of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana faced criticism on and off social media.
Recently, the song Mangal Rang faced backlash for its Sufi-Islamic Qawwali influences.
The film is slated to release in two parts, the first installment of which will release today before Diwali, while the second part is slated for Diwali 2028.
