The producers of the latest stop-motion film from Oscar-winning director Adam Elliot, memoirs of a snailVoiced by Succession Star Sarah Snook has released a teaser ahead of its premiere at Annecy.

As Grace struggles with loss, rejection, sadness and loneliness, she finds solace in sharing her story with a garden snail named Sylvia, who becomes the only creature interested in her tragic tale, as reported. Elliot, best known for his Academy Award-winning short film Harvey CrumpetHe draws inspiration from his own life and the people around him. “The truth is they’re all based on real people: they’re just my family and friends,” he explains. Elliott, whose father was an acrobatic clown, embraces the role of an entertainer. He shared, “I want the audience to laugh, but if I can make them shed a tear, then I really feel like I’ve accomplished something.” Staying true to his passion for stop-motion animation, Elliott explains that it allows him to have full creative control and push the boundaries of the art form. It was originally planned memoirs of a ladybird, The change to a snail felt more authentic. However, after realizing the challenges of creating thousands of snail characters, Elliott jokingly said, “I never want to see a snail again!” Although Elliott acknowledged receiving offers from major studios, he stayed true to his vision, writing and directing his own films on a low budget.

The film features a stellar cast, including Sarah Snook, Jacki Weaver, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Eric Bana. memoirs of a snail, The ArenaMedia production is brought to life by Elliott and Liz Kearney and executive produced by Robert Connolly and Robert Patterson. Anton & Charades handles international sales, while IFC distributes the film in North America and Wild Bunch handles duties in France.
