Sonu Sood explains how the meaning of “hero” changes over time

During a conversation with host Gul Panag, Sonu Sood, who did extensive humanitarian work during the COVID-19 pandemic, shared his understanding of what the word “hero” means to him. Reflecting on how the idea of a hero evolves over time, he said, “I think hero is an Asian word that we grew up hearing, sometimes movie heroes seemed good to us, then parents seemed like heroes to us, our fathers, mothers and teachers seemed like heroes to us, they show us the path in our lives that we don’t know.” But what we learned from him over time makes us realize as we grow up what he meant to us.”

Recalling his childhood and the values instilled by his father, Sonu talked about growing up surrounded by acts of kindness and service. He shared, “I remember that my father had a clothes shop and there was always a langar outside the shop, so in my childhood we also used to stand, we used to keep talking and as long as we gave, the person who received it felt so happy, he used to say give one more puri, we gave one more and he used to be very happy, so he used to think, man, what a special difference it made in giving an extra puri. It matters. So I think for me, my “Teachers, parents, they’ve been amazing heroes.”

Sonu Sood on joining politics

When asked about the possibility of entering politics, Sonu shared his views with clarity and honesty. He explained, “Look, politicians do amazing work, that world is different, then one thing happens that you step into that world and then you enter into it completely. It is not that I have not received political offers, they have come from all the states, some good ones have also been offered to me by PRR.” I felt that I would not be able to satisfy my shame for the chair that would be given to me.

He further added, “So I don’t have anything in mind in terms of getting involved in politics, but I think the time is there and I’m happy with where I’m at right now,” stressing that he is open-minded about the future as he is currently continuing his work as an actor and humanitarian.

Sonu Sood spoke on the suicide case of minor sisters of Ghaziabad.

Talking about it, Sonu said, “Some time ago I had raised this issue, because at a certain age, like 14 to 16 years of age, children should not be allowed to use social media. It happened in Australia, in Andhra Pradesh they are taking their step, in Goa the idea of it was going on. Now people are speaking.” Hey, how to study, technology is necessary for studies, not for social media. Now think that your children will sit here, they will definitely need a phone. Like you gave the example of Ghaziabad case, I think parents are responsible somewhere, right now we are. Sitting at the back, this is what I am also talking about, that parents have made their lives easier ‘Well, I am going out today for shopping, or you know I am doing my work, why not give phones to children, so somewhere, I would say, not 90%, 100%, parents are responsible if they get their children addicted to it. If nothing else, in the coming time the government will take some special steps due to which children belonging to a certain age group will not get respect on social media.
