Amy Schumer opens up about failed colonoscopy, 50-pound weight loss, and Cushing’s syndrome

Amy Schumer has spoken about her health. The comedian revealed in a live event podcast On May 17’s Not Thin, But Not Fat with host Amanda Hirsch, she said she recently had a “bad colonoscopy”, which left her feeling less than her best.

What health condition did Amy Schumer deal with during her weight loss journey?

Schumer’s health journey took a turn for the worse when people online began noticing her swollen face in early 2024. Rather than being hurt by the comments, he said they actually helped him realize that something was wrong. “In addition to the fear about my health, I also had to be in front of the camera with the sound of the Internet. But thank God for that. Because that’s how I realized that something was wrong. She was diagnosed with Cushing’s syndrome, a hormonal disorder caused by elevated cortisol levels, triggered by the steroid injections she received. “I was taking these steroid injections, and it gave me a disease called Cushing’s syndrome, which I wouldn’t have known about if the Internet hadn’t come to me so hard,” she said on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2025, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Once the condition was cleared, Schumer lost 50 pounds but made it clear that it was never about looks. “I lost not 30 pounds, but 50 pounds. Not to look hot, that feels fun and temporary. I did it to survive,” she wrote on Instagram last December.

Amy Schumer talks about plastic surgery and Monjaro

Schumer has been open about every part of her health journey. She confirmed that she takes Monjaro for weight management, although she no longer uses Botox or fillers. According to Hola, she said, “I’m sorry for any feeling you may have that I’ve lost weight. I’ve had plastic surgery over the years and I use Monjaro.”

In a November Instagram update, she shared good news about her overall health. According to Hola, she wrote, “I’ve been working to be pain-free and I’m finally doing it. I no longer have Cushing’s syndrome, so my face is back to normal. I’m grateful to be strong and healthy, especially for my son.”

On December 12, she announced her separation from ex-husband Chris Fischer on Instagram. “Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time,” she wrote.
