Paper Tiger premiere at Cannes Film Festival: Scarlett Johansson excited to reunite with Adam Driver after 7 years

In Paper Tiger stars Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller as Hester and Irwin Pearl, a married couple raising their two sons while living an ordinary middle-class suburban life in late 1980s New York. However, their quiet existence takes a dangerous turn when Irwin’s brother Gary, played by Adam Driver, unexpectedly re-enters their lives and pulls Irwin into a shady money-making scheme. As the situation spirals out of control, the family finds themselves drawn into a dangerous web involving the Russian mafia, putting their safety and stability at grave risk.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the premiere of Paper Tiger on the Croisette at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, Scarlett talked about her experience working on the crime thriller. Miles Teller under the direction of acclaimed filmmaker James Gray. The actor also reflected on reuniting with his Marriage Story co-star Adam Driver for the first time in seven years and shared his excitement about collaborating with him on screen again.

Although the 42-year-old actor has only shared a few scenes with Scarlett in the upcoming crime thriller, the actress admitted that she would have loved to collaborate with him even more. Reflecting on their reunion seven years later, Scarlett praised Adam as a scene partner and said, “I would have loved to do even more scenework with him, I love working with him.”

During the conversation, Scarlett Johansson and filmmaker James Gray spoke warmly about their experience working together on Paper Tiger. Discussing the similarities he saw between Johansson’s character Hester and the actor and her role, James praised her authenticity and intuitive sense of performance, saying, “Scarlett would never do anything that wasn’t real. You have to be careful because it could be completely real, but it would be outside the scope of the language of the film. You should say it all, but I couldn’t be more honest when I say that I’ve really had the greatest joy as a director. The Lucy actor also spoke warmly about the bond he developed with his Paper Tiger co-star Miles Teller during filming. Scarlett shared that she left the set for a few weeks to promote Jurassic World Rebirth, and despite feeling guilty about being away, Miles made sure she still felt connected to the shoot. She revealed that the Whiplash actor used to send her photos of her empty makeup station, and jokingly ask, “Where’s Hester at?”, referencing her character in the film.
