Four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland is back in the second official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The new footage was launched by Tom and Zendaya at a special event in Amsterdam on Wednesday. While the world no longer remembers his true identity, Peter Parker is trying to move on. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Tom’s fourth film in the Spider-Man franchise features a stellar ensemble cast. Tom Holland and Zendaya also join Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink. Here’s a closer look at everything revealed in the trailer and what it tells us about the upcoming film.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Breakdown: Peter Parker loses control as Hulk returns and Sadie Sink’s mysterious role fuels Jean Gray theories.

1. Peter Parker is losing control of his powers

The new footage makes one thing clear: Peter Parker is losing his mind. Spinning out of control, he is seen becoming increasingly overwhelmed by sudden surges in his emotions and spider-powers. The biggest talking point of the trailer is the reveal of a brutal, animalistic version of the web-slinger.

Deeply channeling Marvel’s The Other comic storyline, a black-eyed Peter brutally destroys the Scorpion. His physical changes are also getting worse, as he has developed biological web-shooters that physically push his mechanical wrist gadgets away from his body.

On the action front, another major highlight features Spider-Man falling from a rooftop into a bunch of Hand ninjas. Just before landing, he unleashes a massive, multi-directional blast of webbing that fans have quickly dubbed the “Web Tornado”.

2. Sadie Sink’s mysterious character gives rise to endless theories

Everyone is talking about Sadie Sink’s mysterious role in the new trailer. Marvel and Sony are being incredibly tight-lipped, but from what we can see, she has some serious psychic powers and can manipulate minds. And it seems that Peter Parker is the only person who can see or feel him, leaving him right in the middle of the chaos.

Fans are already racking their brains speculating that she’s playing Jean Grey, which would be a huge deal for bringing the X-Men into the MCU, but nothing’s official yet. We also get a glimpse of Trammell Tillman as William “Bill” Metzger, a senior Department of Damage Control (DODC) official who basically tells Spidey that New York is up against an invisible threat over which they have no control.

3. Hulk, Punisher and Scorpion are all back

Marvel is finally giving audiences what they’ve been begging for: the return of Bruce Banner’s classic, unstoppable Savage Hulk. Brief footage hints that he is not actually acting of his own free will, preparing for a massive confrontation with Spider-Man. In fact, the trailer ends with Spider-Man leaping from a giant gray skyscraper with the webbed Hulk at his heels.

But the real wildcard here is Peter getting to Frank Castle. Leaving him completely isolated due to No Way Home, he turns to the Punisher (Jon Bernthal) to keep MJ safe. It’s surprising, sure, but completely necessary given his lack of allies.

Finally, nine years after Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Mando is officially back as Mac Gargan. We finally get a gorgeous, detailed look at his advanced green armor and that deadly mechanical tail. The scorpion has come.

4. Aunt May’s words bring back emotional baggage

“The people who love you love you because you are you,” Aunt May’s voice echoes in Peter’s mind as he looks at her grave. “Never forget him.”

After No Way Home, Peter is a ghost in his own town, completely forgotten by everyone he ever cared about. Now, as new threats emerge and a dark change begins to overtake her, she is left to fight her toughest battle completely alone, haunted only by the grief of the family she has lost.

5. Ned’s notes confirm the MCU timeline

During a party hosted by Ned Leeds and MJ, Peter notices Ned’s personal notes and the Spider-Man tracking board. One of those notes confirms that Spider-Man first appeared in 2016. This detail directly connects Peter’s superhero journey to the events of Captain America: Civil War.

Sony Pictures Entertainment India has confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will release in India on July 30, a day before its global release on July 31. The film will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
